Are classified ads the appropriate place to find serious time traveling companions?
No, but it does make for an adventurous premise.
In Safety Not Guaranteed Darius Britt (Aubrey Plaza), a magazine intern, and her two coworkers are tasked with answering such an ad. By slowly uncovering the truth behind its writer (Mark Duplass), a comical mystery blossoms into a quirky coming of age story. Throughout, the narrative raises questions about the possibility of time travel and the sanity of the man who claims to be able to do it. An engaging multi-character driven plot leads to a surprisingly powerful climax that will leave you itching to check the classified section of Backwoods Home Magazine.
Fans of New Girl should keep an eye out for Jake Johnson.
For more of Mark Duplass, check out a film he wrote and directed, Jeff, Who Lives at Home, a Ric’s Netflix Pick.
An absolute must watch.
