Snippets History & Corey Plante Bio
Snippet Studios is an Arts & Entertainment blog founded in 2011 by Corey Plante and Liam McCartney. While initially created as a venue to distribute film reviews and playfully explore nerdy interests with a group of friends on a blog, Corey used it to launch a career as an entertainment journalist, learning skills as an editor, manager, and writer that he still applies today.
A Snippet of the original mission statement:
Much of our content is devoted to navigating through the best that Netflix has to offer, reviews of popular movies, discussions of popular comics, and also some dabbling in popular fast food trends and video games.
One of our best-read articles from the early days was a review of Taco Bell’s Smothered Burrito written by Troy Cassidy that generation hundreds of thousands of views—unheard of numbers for such a humble blog.
After graduating with a Master’s in Multimedia Journalism from Emerson College in 2015, Corey immediately got to work for Motif Magazine as the Assistant Editor, covering Rhode Island’s culinary scene. He famously came up with the idea for annual Food Truck Awards that still goes strong today. By 2016, Corey got his start in the New York media, and dedicated a big chunk of his professional life to Inverse.com. He started as a Copy Editor in a Williamsburg apartment with a bunch of other millennials in August 2016 and worked his way up to become the most-read Staff Writer in 2018 and 2019 to the tune of 25 million unique views across 24 months covering Star Wars, Marvel, Rick and Morty, Fortnite, Game of Thrones, and more.
Inverse, and Corey, were thriving. The former caught the eye of Bustle Digital Group, which acquired Inverse in July 2019.
Corey helped relaunch Inverse’s defunct Gaming section as the Associate Gaming Editor in January 2020. Thanks in no small part to a surge in gaming interest during the pandemic (shout out to Animal Crossing: New Horizons), Corey’s SEO skills, and close collaboration with rockstar Senior Gaming Editor Jen Glennon, traffic to the gaming section rose 230% year over year and continues to thrive even today.
Corey wandered back to his home in Rhode Island early in the pandemic and continued working remotely for Inverse while he built a family with his darling wife, Kerri Thornsbury. Their first daughter, January, was almost a year and a half old when Inverse (and BDG) eliminated his position during a round of layoffs that included some of the most senior employees at the company.
Thus began a full year spent as a stay-at-home dad and nighttime freelancer with bylines at Kotaku, IGN, MMORPG.net, Fanbyte, and more. Corey also began the slow process of reviving this site with the intention of using it to showcase his work.
In April 2024, a bit of serendipity: Corey accepted a position as a Staff Writer with The Valley Breeze, covering the northern Rhode Island communities where he grew up. A week later, his second daughter Violet was born. A month after that, he officially started at The Valley Breeze covering everything from corruption in local politics to cute stories about a bunch of toddlers selling lemonade and even an expose about how the current owner of the Conjuring House fired an employee after a ghost told her he was stealing.
